In 2011, I made 18 video posts on a variety of management and leadership topics.  The video posts were popular, but five of them were particularly important to readers.  They are as follows:

1. John Kotter on the Urgency of Change

This was the readers’ favorite video.  In this video,  John Kotter, the guru of change management, explains in his own words why creating a sense of urgency is critical to a successful organizational change effort. As he explains, change now is no longer linear. It is always good to hear an expert speak in their own words!

2. Stephen Covey on His Seven Habits of Highly Effective People

This video is another opportunity to hear the expert explain his own principles and it was a close second in popularity.  In this video, Stephen Covey gives an overview of his seven rules of highly effective people.

3. Innovation: How Does Google Do It?

Innovation is a topic that I spent a great deal of time on this year including publishing a free e-book that is available to subscribers to my mailing list.  In this video, I provided another opportunity for the readers to hear directly from the source on how to become more innovative in the workplace.  The leader for technology for Google Australia & New Zealand provides an insider perspective on how Google promotes innovation.

4. What Does Bill Gates Think About Steve Jobs?

In any great rivalry, there is great interest in finding out what the competitors really think about each other.  With the passing of Steve Jobs this year, many were interested in hearing what Bill Gates thought about his former rival.  In this video, we hear from Bill on his thoughts about the visionary CEO of Apple.

5. Tom Peters: How Leaders Treat Their Employees Matter

In this video, Tom Peters explains that motivated employees who respect the leadership style of their executives often give better service to customers. He contrasts the leadership styles of two different executive teams for two major airlines to make this point.

These were the top 5 videos in reader popularity. The Management is a Journey readers were particularly interested in videos on change management, leadership effectiveness and innovation. The chance to hear from the experts themselves proved to be especially compelling.  This concludes a look back at 2011 from the readers’ perspective. Later, this week I will make one last post on 2011 and share my favorite posts for the year.
