With this post, I conclude my look back on the body of work for Management is a Journey in 2011. Previously, I identified the reader’s top 5 blog posts and their top 5 video posts. Today, I identify my top 5 posts for several of the categories that I regularly feature.  Although I am not an artist (you would not be impressed with anything I drew), I am starting to understand why they hate to choose their best work.  After some internal arguing, here’s my top 5 list for 2011:

Favorite Post:  A Tale of Two Managers

I had a strong emotional attachment to this post and because of this personal connection it was my favorite. This tale of two managers occurred when I was a young man working my way through school. It’s a story of two managers who both got organizational results–only one was a bad manager while the other was a good manager. Their different styles were powerful lessons that still apply today.

Favorite Management Journey Carnival Edition: November Management Journey Carnival

On the third Monday of each month, I publish the Management Journey Carnival. (The Management Journey Blog Carnival is a monthly forum for experts to discuss how to excel at management in the workplace. It consists of 21 insightful articles from around the web.) All of the carnival editions had insightful content, but my personal favorite was the November Carnival for its range of topics and for the depth of the topics that the contributors discussed.

Favorite Video: Zig Ziglar on the Power of the Right Attitude

Identifying this video as my favorite from the 18 videos that I posted was an easier call for me.  Why?  Because Zig Ziglar is a great storyteller! In this video, Zig Ziglar, in his usual entertaining and direct manner, explains why having the right attitude makes all the difference.

Favorite Short Post: In 100 Words or Less – Four Lessons From the Masters of Creativity & Innovation

This post was inspired by a trip I made to the state Department of Motor Vehicles office last year. There were several hundred people that day waiting for service and the only people that I observed that were not impatient and bothered were kids playing a game with their empty water bottles.  Children have a natural ability to create and innovate. They will find a way to make their environment work for them. We can learn from them.

Favorite Quote: Saturday’s Quote From Mary Ann Allison

Quotes are powerful learning tools and each week I make a Saturday Quote. Of those quotes, this one from Mary Ann Allison captured the essence of good management.  Mary Ann kept it short and simple!

These were my five top posts from Management is a Journey in 2011.  I want to thank the readers of this blog for making their stops at Management is a Journey. I also want to thank the regular supporters of this blog who share links to the content on social media.  I appreciate your support.
