When Being Too Smart is the Problem

Those who think they know it all have no way of finding out they don’t.

 Leo Buscaglia

My grandmother was a wise woman who had a knack for seeing people as they really were. I can still hear her saying, “Some people are too smart for their own good!” As a child, I did not understand her but I do now. Any technically-brilliant leader who lacks self awareness is too smart for his own good. Any leader who cannot listen and consider opinions that differ from his own is too smart for his own good. Any leader who only consults with himself is too smart for his own good.  Savvy leaders understand how much they need others.
