Understanding the D Style Personality

The D Style is one of four primary personality styles. This style uses logic and active experimentation to affect their environment. It is a thinking and doing personality style.

The D in this title comes from the word dominance. It reflects the desire of the D Style personality to direct and control his or her environment to get results. People with the D Style have a Strong-Willed, Direct, Let’s-Get-It-Done-Now personality.

People with the D Style are task-oriented people who want to get results as quickly as possible. They are comfortable coordinating resources and other people to accomplish objectives. In fact, they tend to take charge of any situation in which they are involved.

People with the D Style have an outspoken communication style and at times they can be blunt or forceful. In fact, their general communication style is to TELL not ask. They are quick to speak up confidently about what they think should be done. This is often communicated at a big-picture level.

When faced with obstacles, people with the D Style will actively experiment with different approaches to overcome these workplace barriers.

As an employee, here’s what you can expect from the D Style personality:

  • Expect him or her to be controlled, independent, and strong-willed
  • Look for him or her to want to focus on tasks first and relationships second
  • Expect him or her to use conflict at times to get the results that he or she is seeking
