A mistake some leaders and operational managers make is focusing on the messenger, not the message. This is especially true when there is a history of organizational conflict or a difference in personality styles between the individuals.
Managers hurt their success when they refuse to consider the input of those who they find difficult. It also has real costs to an organization (waste, rework, poor morale, turnover, etc.).
Effective leaders continually use emotional intelligence to keep their focus on what is being said, not on who is saying it.
