Human Potential is a Terrible Thing to Waste!

I adapted the powerful ad slogan of the United Negro College Fund (a mind is a terrible thing to waste) some years ago as the closing quote for a development effort I was conducting. At the time, I thought about the negative impact of ineffective leaders who do not understand how to effectively engage their human capital (particularly those whose interaction styles are different from their own). Whether valuable team members leave the organization or remain as marginal contributors, in the end the biggest loser is the business enterprise.
Human potential is a terrible thing to waste!
