Leadership is not easy. It involves bringing together independent minded people to share a vision of a desirable future. It usually requires overcoming obstacles, handling competing agendas, and working with limited resources. Despite your best efforts, you will have setbacks. Leadership has its ups and downs. They come with the territory.
Expect some resistance and dysfunctional organizational behavior. Communicate clearly. Keep modeling the behavior you want others to follow. Don’t take all opposition personally. Keep using effective management and leadership practices. Hold people accountable. Persevere.
The tide goes out but it always comes back!
