To Innovate You Must Experiment and Fail!

If you have an organization where people are scared of failing

that they won’t take the risk of learning something new,

you don’t get the innovation that’s required to grow.

Gary Smith

This quote from Gary, the CEO of Ciena Corporation, is a great reminder that mistakes are opportunities in disguise.  On his way to greatness, Thomas Edison was known for his many “experiment failures” and his dogged determination to “keep at it” until he “got it right.” Innovation is only possible when we are willing to accept the risk of failing.  With the right attitude, our failures help us to adapt to obtain a better result. In fact, there is always something that can be learned from a mistake–even if the lesson is, I will never do this again!
