Know and Accept Your Limitations

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;

courage to change the things I can;

and the wisdom to know the difference.

Reinhold Niebuhr

It’s true that there is much that you can accomplish as a skilled leader and manager.

Some results you can produce by the power of your position and other results you can obtain by influencing others.

There are some things you cannot change in your organization however–despite your best efforts.

It’s wisdom to know when it is time to move on from an approach, relationship, goal, or organization.

If you’ve been stuck too long in one place, it’s wise to evaluate if you should continue doing things as you always have. If you don’t, you can become your own worst enemy when it comes to creating stress and unrealistic demands upon yourself.

You have great power when you both know and accept your own limitations!

It’s a lesson I learned long ago myself and one I continue to learn.
