Stephen Covey addresses the need for leaders to tear down walls that exist in organizations.  These walls serve as barriers to interpersonal effectiveness, organizational collaboration, effective communication, and ultimately organizational productivity.  To tear down walls effectively, leaders must master three of his 7 Habits of Highly Effective People:

  1. Think “we” not “me”;
  2. Listen to understand, not to reply;
  3. Believe in third alternatives.
